World Cup

There's just too many things to discuss about this event that the entire world is watching.

Does the World Cup enhance the relationship between people? An example can be that Mr. A and his father rarely talk to each other, but because of the World Cup, they have a common topic to chat and discuss about.

But what will happen after the World Cup? Will they go back to square one?

The most important issue that I want to talk about is not about the players or the teams, but rather the supporters. Are we, Singaporeans, really supportive of the team that they talk about? Do we see the Singaporean supporters cry when their favourite team loses in a big match, like what we see on TV, where the supporters of the eliminated team cry their hearts out.

Or do Singaporeans support the team that wins them money, be it from bookies or from Singapore Pools? When we hear someone shout, "Come on England! Score one more!", is it because he bought England to win 2-0, or is it because he wants England to win, and feels that England can secure a win with one more goal? I've seen before a guy wearing Manchester United jersey while watching a match between Manchester United and Arsenal. Even though Man United won in the end, he cursed and swear because they didn't win by 2 goals, and in the end caused him to lose money.

Is that really supporting the team?
