电车男

I know this might make me sound stupid, but I'm crazy about 电车男 currently.

In case you guys don't know about it,
电车男 is a real life story about a nerd who saved a lady from a drunkard in the train, and how their relationship developed.

The storyline might sound boring, but trust me, you will cry AT LEAST once while watching either the movie or the serial (It is shown on SCV Chan 55/56 every Monday and Tuesday at 3pm and 11pm)

This show depicts how the guy transformed from the nerdy him into one who's still nerdy, but at least he doesn't think nerdy anymore. Sounds confusing? Doesn't matter. LOL.

Whenever he faces any trouble, he will go online to a very popular forum in Japan and then discuss about it in there. Soon, the entire forum knows about him, and they call him
电车男. Not only that, they always give suggestions and tips on how to woo the girl, and what to do in order not to be so nerdy. As for the girl, as she sent a very high class gift which has the brand "Hermes", she is known as Hermes to the people in the forum.

I'm especially touched by what the
电车男 says whenever he faces any trouble with her. When he thanked all of them after they gave him "suggestions" on how to transform himself, I almost cried. I don't really remember the words he said, but it's just very touching. It tells you how sincere he is in pursuing the girl.

The only one part that I can remember him saying is this phrase:
Do you think that time passes at the same rate?
I thought so too, but not anymore.
Whenever I'm waiting for her, time passes very slowly and eternally.
But whenever I'm with her, time passes like a flash.

What will we guys do when we tell a small lie to someone?

I don't know about you. When
电车男 told a small lie to Hermes that he knew how to wakeboard, through the suggestions of those from the online forum, he decided to take 3 days leave and ask his colleague to teach him how to wakeboard. Even though he failed after the end of 3 days, he still went on to meet her. But before doing so, he got himself injured really badly, and cried alot of times while chatting with the rest of the people because he didn't know whether should he go on with the lie or should he tell the truth, and he was afraid of what would have happened if he did tell the truth to Hermes.

Luckily, it rained during the actual day that they both met. Even so, under the heavy rain,
电车男 knelt down (the Japanese manners) and apologised to Hermes for lying to her that he knew how to wakeboard. Hermes, noticing that 电车男 got himself all injured to learn how to wakeboard, and even spent alot of money buying a board, forgave him.

Will we people do that when we tell a small lie to someone? Or will we just ignore what we've said, and act as though we didn't tell the lie?
电车男 , even though it was a very small lie, it mattered so much to him because he doesn't want to lie to the woman he loves. 电车男 , because of Hermes, also gave up all his comics and comic figurines because of Hermes. How many people here will give up everything they got for the one they love? People here can't even quit smoking for their loved ones, let alone their precious collections!

电车男 taught me alot of things. He taught me to be honest to my spouse, and also he taught me to be utmost sincere in everything I do. Even though it's just a small gesture, like 电车男 calling Hermes at 12 midnight exactly to wish her happy birthday, it will be appreciated.

It's funny how we can learn all these from a nerd who do not have any experience in relationships. A nerd who touched many's hearts through the words that he say on the forum. A nerd who is willing to change for the one he loves. A nerd who imitates no one in going after the girl he loves. He just being himself.

电车男 . People do not forget this name. Go buy the VCD. I'm going to do so now.

Manners

I must first explain that I'm not typing this to pick on anybody.

Why do I always see complaints about our bus and taxi drivers on the New Paper? I shall quote some, to the best of what I can remember.

1) This happened to my friend
Friend: Er uncle, can go to XXXXX Camp?
Taxi Driver: Do I have a choice?

Does he need to be so rude? If you do not want to drive us there, then say no. There's loads of taxis queueing behind you.

2) From The New Paper
There's this passenger who came back to the bus and didn't have enough change to pay for the fare. The bus driver then decided that he will not drive off until he get the passenger to pay. Note that it is during the peak hour, where everyone is rushing to work.

After a very long time talking to the passenger, many of the passengers got frustrated and requested to get off the bus. The driver promptly allowed them to do so, without showing any sign of guilt that he caused them to be late for work. When other passengers volunteered to help pay for that poor passenger, the bus driver didn't allow them to do so, and said that the passenger must pay herself.

I do not know what happened to that poor passenger in the end, but most of the passengers left the bus.

Can't the bus driver be more considerate? Why must he make things difficult for everyone, and cause so many people to be late, just because of one lady who can't pay enough?

3) This happened to me
I was calling for a cab, and I won't say which taxi company. Upon giving us the taxi license plate number and telling us that it will arrive in 10 minutes, we then walked out of our camp and waited for the taxi, together with our warrant officer, whose cab will arrive in 20 minutes time. We called the same company.

Within 15 minutes, his taxi arrived, and it's a Mercedes cab. Lucky guy.

As our camp is really deserted, we decided to give our taxi driver the benefit of doubt that he got lost, and that's why he was late. But after 40 minutes, we decided to call the taxi company again and see what's wrong. The only reply I got from there was that they couldn't check for me, because their server hanged, and that they will call me very soon. They soon hang up before I could say anything.

They only called 30 minutes later. By then, I got onto another cab, and I didn't answer their phone.

How irresponsible can they be? Why bother to take down the passenger's contact number if you're not going to call them and tell them that something has cropped up, or that you will be late because of a jam or something?

From then on, I never liked that taxi company, and I seem to be "blacklisted" because my friends use my phone to call them and they will never ever pick my phone up. Shouldn't it be me blacklisting them instead of the other way round?

I seriously feel that people like them, who work in the public sector, need to be trained on their manners and working attitude. Imagine the impression a tourist will get if the taxi driver is so rude like the one in the first incident.

Taxi and bus drivers should undergo a course that teaches them how to handle difficult situations in the right manner, to least affect the rest of the passengers. They shouldn't become one just because they know the roads well, or that they can drive well.

One good bus driver is one that drives Bus 302. He greets everyone who comes up the bus, and most of the passengers will either return a smile or say hi. It might be a simple gesture, but it sure makes the bus ride pleasant. Sure it looks weird in the beginning, and you might think that he's a psycho. But in the long run, you will find that it is the right working attitude.

Let's start by learning this simple gesture shall we?
