SMRT Fare Increase.. Again

I just watched the news, and again SMRT is considering to increase the fare prices for their train and bus services by 1 or 2 cents. The reason they gave for the hike is because of the increase in diesel prices.

They interviewed a few people, and here are some of the responses.

Interviewee 1:
Just 1 or 2 cents, shouldn't be a problem.

Interviewee 2:
SMRT has been providing us with good services and quality. Look at the MRT. It is so clean! Paying 1 or 2 cents more is definitely no problem for me.

Interviewee 3:
Is SMRT earning very little profit every year? If yes, then I will agree with the fare hike. But if they ARE earning big money each year, then why the rush to increase the fare prices again?

I agree with the 3rd interviewee. Is SMRT really earning very little profit? I don't think so. Come on, more than 1 million commuters on the MRT everyday? And don't-know-how-many people who take the bus everyday too? That should be a huge amount of money isn't it? So why do we need a fare hike so urgently?

We just had all the taxi companies increase their flag-down rates by 10 cents or more, and now when everyone is deciding to stop taking taxis and instead take public transport, you increase the fares for public transport?! What will happen in the future? Charge us for walking on the pavements? "Please insert a $2 note into the machine in order for you to walk on the pavement. If you do not so, our police officers are on hand to catch you, and you might be fined $1,000."

Spooky

Normally every year, during the lunar 7th month, my family will go down to Malaysia to "invite" my father's spirit up and ask him questions. This year is no different, but something spooky just happened, that made my hair stand up.

3 years ago, while talking to my father, my grandmother then asked him to give her a good 4D number so that she can buy and strike money. My dad gave her 7763, but he said that this number will appear 3 years later, just the day before we will go and visit him again. My grandmother forgot about it until today morning, when we got reminded about the number, and apparently it's also the medium's motorcycle license plate number. Both my grandmother and the medium didn't remember about it, and end up missing the chance to win money.

I mean, we can randomly generate a number out and then say by when it will come out. I guess mathematically we can calculate the chances of that happening, but I'll leave that to the mathematicians. But what are the chances of a spirit being invited up, give a 4D number, and accurately tell us when will the number appear? 1 out of a trillion?!

And how did my dad know that I have a girlfriend, even when my grandmother and auntie never mentioned it in front of him, except when we visit his grave during Qing Ming?!

Sometimes it's just good to rather believe that spirits exist than not isn't it? I used to think that it wasn't REALLY true because the medium was quite close to us, and knew quite alot of things about my dad and my family. But today, there were 2 group of my grandmother's friends who have never visited him, and he displayed the exact characteristics of her friends' relatives!

Who knows, my dad might be standing right beside me in my room now looking at me blog about this, and laughing his ass off.

I love this song.

How boring will Serie A get man? And considering the amount of money (or the lack of it) they will get from playing in Serie B for at least 1 or 2 seasons, they can't afford to keep their players. Even if they have the money, would the egoistic players stay to play in Serie B? I just can't foresee Buffon, Cannavaro, or Nedved playing in Serie B. They'll leave I guess. Just like what happened to Leeds United after they were relegated. Alan Smith, Rio Ferdinand etc.

Sayonara Italia.

Life After Army

Alright it might be too early to blog about this because I haven't officially ORD yet, but why not! Now that I finally have some time to really sit down and consider what I want to do in my future, I find that I have alot of things that are not confirmed at the moment, and it's bothering me.

1. UNSW (University of New South Wales) Asia
After hearing from Mr Yeo Heeling that it will cost me at least 25K a year for 4 years to study in UNSW Asia, I'm starting to think that it isn't worth it. In the first place, the reason why I choose to stay in Singapore is to save more money on the school fees. If I end up in UNSW Asia, isn't that the same price I'll pay if I go overseas?

2. SIM (University of London)
They're supposed to reply me at about this time, but till now I still hear no news from them. Am I gonna get rejected by them? I'll be real sad, as the school fees are only 7K a year, for 3 years! Not only that, the school is near my house! Hope that they can reply me really fast, so that I don't have to worry everyday.

3. NUS (National University of Singapore)
They haven't replied me for my appeal. Did they throw my appeal application away, or are they seriously considering it, or did they forget to reply to it? Whatever it is, where is my acceptance/rejection letter!

4. Creative
Creative hasn't replied me on my job applications. I guess I'll probably not be able to make it. They'll probably have thousands of people with first class honours fighting to work for them, so why would they even bother to look at a polytechnic graduate who doesn't even have a proper resume? But this means I don't have a job until the day I start school, provided I get into one! I need money! Somebody recommend me a job!?

World Cup

There's just too many things to discuss about this event that the entire world is watching.

Does the World Cup enhance the relationship between people? An example can be that Mr. A and his father rarely talk to each other, but because of the World Cup, they have a common topic to chat and discuss about.

But what will happen after the World Cup? Will they go back to square one?

The most important issue that I want to talk about is not about the players or the teams, but rather the supporters. Are we, Singaporeans, really supportive of the team that they talk about? Do we see the Singaporean supporters cry when their favourite team loses in a big match, like what we see on TV, where the supporters of the eliminated team cry their hearts out.

Or do Singaporeans support the team that wins them money, be it from bookies or from Singapore Pools? When we hear someone shout, "Come on England! Score one more!", is it because he bought England to win 2-0, or is it because he wants England to win, and feels that England can secure a win with one more goal? I've seen before a guy wearing Manchester United jersey while watching a match between Manchester United and Arsenal. Even though Man United won in the end, he cursed and swear because they didn't win by 2 goals, and in the end caused him to lose money.

Is that really supporting the team?
